The Programme


The Smiths Detection Facilities Technician Apprenticeship provides the perfect opportunity to join the Facilities team for a large manufacturing site.


You will be working as part of the Facilities team, and your duties will include:


  • Install, maintain and repair electrical systems with in the facility.
  • Plan and carry out planned preventative maintenance on plant with in the Facility.
  • Plan and carry out remedial works to plant and building infrastructure.
  • Monitor building systems to ensure compliance and reduce unplanned outages.
  • Ensure safe working conditions prevail at all times within the Facility

 

The apprenticeship programme will include:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations: Buildings and Structures (1 year)
  • Testing and commissioning - carry out inspection and testing of complex electrical systems safely and in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification - carry out fault diagnosis and rectification of complex electrical systems safely with an emphasis on period inspection scenarios
  • Health and safety during inspection - gain essential health and safety knowledge and skills to demonstrate best practice in a business services engineering environment or sector


About You


  • Hold a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation: Buildings and Structures already.
  • Interested in becoming a multi-skilled electrician
  • Desire to learn to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings, block diagrams and schematics.
  • Experience of working to Health & Safety standards and regulations or willingness to learn these
  • Able to prioritize in a fast paced environment
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Flexibility in working hours and shift patterns to provide cover
  • You must be 18 years old before September 2019
  • You will need to have a clean UK driving licence
  • The positions are subject to satisfactory background checks and/or National Security Vetting



Future prospects:


On successful completion of the program the apprentices have the opportunity to join one of our Facilities team as a multi-skilled Electrician.
