The Programme

The Smiths Detection Accounts Payable Apprenticeship provides the perfect opportunity to start a career in Accounts working in a busy Finance Department for a business supplying world class detection and screening equipment.

You will be working as part of the Accounts Payable team and your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Processing Invoices and credit notes using our SAP ERP system
  • Reconciling supplier statements
  • Filing
  • Checking of Staff Expenses and reporting any discrepancies
  • Validating and updating supplier information held on our systems
  • Maintaining supplier query log
  • Processing invoices against the company’s credit card and reconciling the statements on a monthly basis
  • Quarterly review of the Goods Received not Invoiced account
  • Various ad-hoc duties as and when required


The apprenticeship programme will include:

Level 2 Accounting - Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting

As part of this apprenticeship the apprentice will be required to attend college (Central Bedfordshire College) 1 day per week to work towards the AAT qualification, as well as 2 hours per week for 15 weeks for any required functional skills.

About You:

  • A Minimum of 4 GCSE’s Grade 9-4 (A*-C) to include Maths and English.
  • Good communication skills using a variety of mediums to include excellent English communications skills both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take on additional duties.
  • The positions are subject to satisfactory background checks and/or National Security Vetting
  • You would preferably be 18 years old before September 2019
